Laparoscopy

A laparoscopy is an outpatient surgical procedure used to evaluate and treat endometriosis, pelvic scarring, and blockages in the fallopian tubes.

Under anesthesia, a small camera is placed through an incision in the belly button; two more small incisions—just above the pelvic bone and slightly towards the left side of the abdomen—allow the physician to investigate the pelvis internally.

A laser can be attached to the laparoscope. Dr. Ziegler is an expert in laser surgery and prefers to use this method to treat pelvic scarring and endometriosis, because the laser causes less tissue trauma and reduces pelvic adhesions after surgery.
