Fertility Preservation Insurance Coverage Becomes NJ Law
Governor signs bill to strengthen infertility treatment coverage
The new fertility preservation law signed on January 13, 2020 strengthens the state’s 2017 IVF coverage mandate. This is great news for people with conditions like cancer and sickle cell anemia that can harm their fertility through damaging treatments.
Preserving their fertility before treatment can involve egg freezing or sperm freezing, which can enable them to still have children after their treatment. The bill requires certain health insurers to provide healthcare benefits coverage for fertility preservation when necessary treatments could cause infertility.
